Design And Implementation Of An Online LAN Knowledge-Based System

Abstract

The project is designed specially for those hardware engineers/computer scientist who are just commerce their carries in the field of installation and maintenance of computer network. While the theories are meant for commercial applicant that are interested in using the programme technique.

Further more, in this project design, the principle of different type of network configuration are been highlighted. And emphasis are made on the installation and maintenance techniques. Finally, appropriate information are been acquired from human experts in the field of network.

Chapter One

1.0 Introduction

How is computer and other related devices actually able to send information across data communication lines. The answer to this is the installation and maintenance of computer network. Furthermore, installation and maintenance of computer network is the glue that holds all data in the exact form, the data is to be transfer from one place to another. While the procedures for installation of computer methods are embodies in this project.

1.1 Statement of the Problem

Computer hardware may fail, telephone line may fail and more likely, the computer software may have bugs that make the network stop working. How does the airlines clerk sell tickets when the computer is down? How can the pilot send a message across if the network fails? How do you get your electronic mail, pay bills, get news, if you become dependent on computer networks that sometimes fails. If you put a shaved database, you want to be sure that it will not disappear or be tampered with. It you can use home computer raid your account and toil will your money?

A company that puts all its important data in line runs the risk to go out of business if that information is boss or incorrect.

Furthermore, support the owners of a saved data based want only certain people to use it one way to limit use, is to give a password to those people alone, that will have access to it and before opening the data base, the computer will ask the user to enter a password.

Password protection is not parted, though if someone finds out your password and use it, the computer will not know that such password is been used illegally by such person.
Finally, inability of the computer scientist to observe appropriate procedure in connection during installation poses treat to them, which however may lead to damage of the computer and cards.

1.2 Purpose of the Study

The purpose of the study is to design a system which shall render an assistance to the computer scientist during the installation and maintenance of a compute network. Moreover, proper installation of various components of the networks are achieved and the prevention and corrective maintenance are properly added.

1.3 Aim and Objectives

The aim and objectives of the study are as follows:

1. To minimize cost:

With maintenance, there is reduction in cost, i.e. instead of spending more money in the purchasing of new equipment, the money can be used in the maintenance of the faulty equipment.

2. To reduce the staff:

With the introduction of the computer network (computerized) there is possibility that the number of staff will reduce.

3. To share file and resources at a given time:

With the computer network or files and other peripherals can be shared at any given time as printer, scanner and files.

4. To increases output:

With the computer network; jobs that are scheduled for 10 day can be done in 3 days and this will increase output.

5. The overall objectives of the local area network:

Is to connect the computer system and devices in the same geographical area.

1.4 Scope of the Study

There are different kinds of computer network system, such as Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) etc. But this project is limited to only Local Area Network (LAN) and using about 100 workstation.

1.5 Limitations

All area of human endeavours are usually characterized by some limits factors. But the peculiar constraint encountered in carrying out this project are as follows:

1. Constraint of time:

The study was carried out with a given terminal data for submission due to the shortness in the semester.

2. Unavailability of language complier for use such as the c language.

That would have enable the development of more sophisticated work.

3. Virus attack:

During programming design. There was virus attack, which indicated start from scratch.

1.6 Assumption

In the design of this project, it was assured that the computer scientist should have been conversant with the use of computer hardware system computer network system and the computer software system.

1.7 Definition of Terms

Computer Network:

This is the process where by two or more computers are connected together so that they can communicate with each other at the same time share resources, files and other peripherals devices, like scanner and printer.
It a collection of computers (PCS) and other devices connected together with cable (Cats) and RJ45 plus. This allows than to communicate with each opther and other to exchange, preserve and protect information, and it also make it easier to share expensive hardware/printer, scanner, and CDROM and software’s.

Installation:

Installation is the process whereby a device apparatus, or piece of machinery is fixed of fitted in a place to perform some specific functions.

Maintenance:

This is the performance if present maintenance in the aid to prevent incipient hardware faults or to correct hardware faults that has occurred.

Expert System:

Is a computer program which solve problems from a specific knowledge base, that is a body of knowledge in a specialized field.

Recommendation and Conclusion

7.1 Recommendation

There are profound impacts in the world today because of installation of computer network and maintenance.
An institution where installation of computer network is highly recommended. In terms of resource sharing provision of local facilities without the less of conferral control, cost minimizing etc.

It is incomparable with the computer in computer technology. The problems of time beadage, lack of increase in output, etc can be taken care of by the installation of computer network. I also make suggestion under the problems of network. They should be corruption to assure privacy instead of storing the data in form that any one can read.

The computer rewrites the data in codes however person who know the code control which is able to decode the data. In manufactures should standardize the kind of network they choose, so that it can stand as a standard network.

7.2 Conclusion

From what have be discussed in this project of installation and maintenance of computer network. It is obvious that the installation and maintenance is very useful in computer technology today. Numerous computer from the ward today utilize computer network system.

The step in the installation and maintenance of computer network has been followed simultaneously in this project so that a novice in the computer network can not work as if he/she has the knowledge of networks.
It is therefore highly recommended for every installation, individual, government and even computer firms to adopt network system in other to improve efficiency.
