Factors Influencing The Utilization Of Malaria Control Strategies Among Mothers Of Under 5 Children In Atani Community, Arochukwu Local Government, Abia State

Abstract
This study was carried out to examine the factors influencing the utilization of malaria control strategies among mothers of under 5 children in Atani Community, Arochukwu Local Government, Abia State. The study specifically was aimed to ascertain the prevalence of malaria among under 5 children in Atani Community, Arochukwu Local Government, Abia State, assess the level of knowledge towards malaria control measures among mothers of under 5 children in Atani Community, Arochukwu Local Government, Abia State, assess the factors influencing the utilization of malaria control strategies among mothers of under 5 children in Atani Community, Arochukwu Local Government, Abia State, and proffer recommendations on how to improve the use of malaria control strategies among mothers of under 5 children in Atani Community, Arochukwu Local Government, Abia State. The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprised of mothers of under 5 children in Atani Community, Arochukwu Local Government, Abia State. In determining the sample size, the researcher purposefully selected 160 respondents and 141 were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables, and mean scores. While the hypotheses was tested Chi-square statistical tool. The result of the findings reveals that the level of knowledge towards malaria control measures among mothers of under 5 children in Atani Community, Arochukwu Local Government, Abia State includes: effective use of mosquito net, indoor residual spraying, the use of antimalarial prophylaxis, spraying insecticides, and traditional medicine are practices. The study also revealed that the factors influencing the utilization of malaria control strategies among mothers of under 5 children in Atani Community, Arochukwu Local Government, Abia State includes: knowledge and awareness, socioeconomic factors, including income, education level, and occupation, access to healthcare services, cultural beliefs and practices. Therefore, it is recommended that Health authorities and NGOs should conduct regular, community-specific awareness campaigns. These should focus on the importance of malaria prevention, symptoms recognition, and timely treatment. To mention but a few.
