Chapter One

1.0 Introduction

Topographical survey can be defined as a form of survey exercise carried out to define the artificial (Man made) and natural features include Hill, mountain, valley, rivers while artificial features are pipe line, building, bridges etc.
Leveling are sued to defined topography, it is used to differentiate height to two points on the earth surface.
Topographical surveying has been defined by different individuals according to Cornmand of Defined council (1968), Topographical survey is the science arratically executed of measuring the physical features of the earth and the art scientifically controlled of deloreating them.

According to Wilson (1971) “topographical surveying is a survey where the physical features of the earth are measured, and maps and mans are prepared to show their relative position both horizontally and vertically.
According to C.U Madu is basic principle and methods of surveying he defined topographical surveying as a survey in which the physical to show their relative positions both horizontally and vertically.

With these above definitions, I can say that in topographical surveying, there is a determination of the location of the feature of given area.

Topographic Surveying As Related To Leveling Contour

These are lines used to join places of equal height.

Horizontal equivalent: Is the distance on a map between any two consecutive contours.

Reasons why contour are used;

  1. It represents features by conventional sign. Hectare and layering
  2. To show the shape and relative size on the ground without observing details.

Topographical surveying is important because it helps in planning purposes which will help in further development of the place.

1.2 Aims And Objectives

The aims of this project is to gather the necessary date for the production of the topographical map of school of humanities Federal Polytechnic Nekede (which include the developed and the undeveloped part) which will be essential for further planning purpose.

  1. To produce a plammetric map
  2. To get internal spot height for contouring the map
  3. To run a perimeter traverse of the area to demarcate the boundaries
  4. To produce to topographical map
  5. To run a perimeter level to height the concern points.

1.3 Scope And Location Scope

The job covers the entire premises of the school of humanities, both developed and the undeveloped are;
School of humanities Federal Polytechnic Nekede is Located at the back of school of environmental design and technology.

Chapter Five

Summary, Recommendation And Conclusion

5.1 Summary

This project outline the structure, methodology and presentation of topographic surveying, the methodology expresses the method and procedure of data acquisition and data processing. The presentation should be the abstract analysis and graphical presentation whish is the topography.
The topography of the plan produced is very useful in the sense that it will help the school to design new structures in the un developed areas.

5.2 Recommendation

Students should be target, and be permitted to use autocard to flat the survey to reduce stress and time wasting.

Digital equipments like the global restoring system (GPS) total station and electronic distance measurement should be involved for the project exercise.

These instruments should be repaired if it is faulty and should be provided and on time.

5.3 Conclusion

The result obtained have shown that the aims and objectives have been achieved adhering to the departmental instructions.

The analysis of this research also shows that the project was successfully executed. This project serves as a good training ground which has invariably prepared me for further professional exposure in surveying.

Ask friends and family, read your work for them to listen to your presentation, and write down questions. You may be lucky the panel will ask you those you have already prepared on.

2. Strong Summary:

Summarizing your chapters will help keep your audience focused because it is easy for a mind to drift, so providing summaries will ensure your panel will follow along, even if they lose focus for a brief moment. Visual aides, such as graphs and power-point presentations can be very helpful. If you are going to use these, make sure you will practice your presentation with them.
