Urinary Tract Infection Among Pregnant Women Attending Antenatal Clinic at Federal Medical Centre, Keffi

Abstract

This study was carried out to survey urinary tract infection among pregnant women attending antenatal in Federal Medical Center Keffi. Specifically, the study examined the prevalence rate of urinary tract infections among pregnant women attending antenatal care, the risk factors of urinary tract infections among pregnant women attending antenatal care and the effects of urinary tract infections among pregnant women attending antenatal care. The study adopted the health belief model. From the responses obtained and analysed, the concluded that the effects of urinary tract infections among pregnant women attending antenatal care at Federal Medical Center Keffi, the findings of this study revealed; UTIs have caused me significant discomfort and pain during my pregnancy, I have experienced increased frequency of urination due to UTIs, UTIs have led to anxiety and stress during my pregnancy and I have needed more medical attention and visits to the hospital due to UTIs as some of the effects. The study recommended that routine culture in the diagnosis of UTI among pregnant women at booking is important to prevent adverse outcome for the mother and child.
