Level Of Knowledge And Awareness On The Effects And Prevention Of Anemia In Pregnancy Among Pregnant Women Attending Antenatal Care In Primary Health Care Centers In Obubra Local Government Area

Abstract

This study was carried out to assess the level of knowledge and awareness on the effects and prevention of anemia in pregnancy among pregnant women attending antenatal care in primary health care centers in Obubra Local Government Area. The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprised of pregnant women attending antenatal care in primary health care centers in Obubra Local Government Area. In determining the sample size, the researcher conveniently selected 41 respondents and 35 were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables. While the hypotheses was tested Chi-square statistical tool, SPSS v23. The result of the findings reveals that there is a low level of awareness towards the preventive practices of anemia in pregnancy among pregnant women attending antenatal care in primary health care centers in Obubra Local Government Area. Furthermore, the study revealed a positive attitude of pregnant women towards the preventive practices of anemia in pregnancy. Therefore, it is recommended that a continuous education and awareness program on anemia is required among pregnant women in order to minimize anemia risk factors and ameliorate the negative effects of anemia in pregnancy. Early detection and management strategies should be adopted to prevent anemia.
