The Impacts Of HIV / AIDS On The People Of Ogoja Local Government Area Of Cross River State
Abstract
This study was carried out to examine the impacts of HIV/AIDS on the people of Ogoja Local Government Area Of Cross River State. The study specifically was aimed to ascertain the prevalence of HIV/AIDS among the people of Ogoja Local Government Area Of Cross River State, identify the mode of transmission of HIV/AIDS among the people of Ogoja Local Government Area Of Cross River State, and find out the prevention strategies of HIV/AIDS among the people of Ogoja Local Government Area Of Cross River State. The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprised of resident of Ogoja Local Government Area Of Cross River State. In determining the sample size, the researcher purposefully selected 147 respondents and 141 were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables, and mean scores. While the hypotheses was tested Chi-square statistical tool. The result of the findings reveals that the prevalence of HIV/AIDS among the people of Ogoja Local Government Area Of Cross River State is high. Furthermore, the study revealed that the mode of transmission of HIV/AIDS among the people of Ogoja Local Government Area Of Cross River State includes: engaging in unprotected anal, vaginal, or oral sex, especially with multiple partners or anonymous partners, sharing syringes and other injection equipment with someone who is infected with HIV, female genital mutilation, and unsterile traditional bloodletting and traditional marking and tattooing will lead to an increase in the risk of HIV transmission. Therefore, it is recommended that HIV/AIDS testing centres should be created more in the rural areas and awareness on the importance created. To mention but few.
