Impact Of Organizational Communication Methods On The Efficiency Of Employees In Delta State

Chapter One

1.1 Background of the Study

Organizations are classified as high, medium, or low flyers across the world based on how they interact with their operational environment in terms of social obligations, task and service delivery to clients and workers. The purpose of an organization is to make money through producing goods and services. In order to achieve the desired results, the business must hire personnel who are both efficient and dedicated to the task at hand. Committed employees are the ones who are praised for their efforts, and who are praised by organizations in order to attain products and objectives. There will be no organizations if there is no communication, according to (Nwagbara, E. Oruh, C. Ugorji, N., and Ennsra,M. 2013). The communication abilities of an organization’s management determine how well it meets its aims, fulfills its social duties, or does both. If managers communicate well, the organization will more likely achieve its objectives. Communication, according to Pillay K. and Hoque N. (2015), is the process of meaningful contact between humans. It is the act of transmitting information as well as the process of exchanging meanings in order to achieve comprehension. A sender, a message, a channel, and a recipient are all necessary components of communication. Even if the receiver is not involved or aware of the sender’s communication aim at the time of communication, it is preferable that the communicating parties have a communicative common ground. As a result, communication may take place over long periods of time and space. Daramola (1997) claims that communication is everywhere. It occurs everywhere, at all times and in all places. It can be found everywhere around us. Today, there is growing worry, discussion, study, and misunderstanding throughout the world about how managers execute their jobs – management performance – as well as organizational performance – the measure of how well organizations accomplish their duties. As a result, good communication is critical for every organization’s continuous survival. Effective co-ordination of its resources (human and non-human) into desired and efficient working units requires good communication. Lack of knowledge will undoubtedly cause disorder, and organizational goals in terms of worker productivity will become unreachable due to a lack of communication, since successful personnel utilization is dependent on good communication systems. Workers’ productivity, which is defined as the measure of how successfully resources are brought together in an organization and used to achieve a set of results, may be reached through communication (Taylor N. 2015).

Conductive, efficient communication aids in the achievement of organizational goals. Efficiency, mutual understanding, and effectiveness are all aided by excellent communication. In the office, communication may flow in both directions: from management to employees and from employees to management. Instructurers, inquiries or questions, and the submission of forms for making decisions are the most common types of information that move from management to employees. While information flowing from subordinates to management takes the shape of protests, ideas, supplying information, and complaints, among other things.

In every corporation, there are several communication methods in use in the office, which may be oral or written. Regardless of the technique used, it must result in mutual understanding between the two people involved. The degree to which this comprehension is achieved is determined by the message’s clarity and the receiver’s capacity to detect intended meanings. The nature of the message and the sender of the message determine the communication tactics to be utilized in an office. Because messages, media, persons, and message recipients differ, careful consideration of the medium to employ is required. Some of the aspects to consider are speed and accuracy, the nature of the message, the receiver and sender of the message, the media to use, and so on. (Lukaszewski, J. 2006). The following is an explanation of the aim of communication: i. Establish and distribute an enterprise’s goals. ii. To devise strategies for achieving them iii. To manage human and other resources in the most efficient and effective manner possible. iv. To keep track of performance in order to stay on track with specified goals and objectives. According to Amiayo (2005), a lack of knowledge would inevitably result in disorder, and organizational goals will be missed. Individual communication is critical in every business, and it cannot be overstated.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Although communication is unquestionably important for the successful and efficient administration of any firm, managers and chief executives have found it to be difficult and stressful due to several impediments. Communication overload, poorly expressed messages, inappropriate medium, poor listening and premature evaluation, grapevine, hostility between participants, bureaucracy, social distance, communication filtering, and distractions by personal and family problems are all examples of communication barriers.

Due to misunderstanding, there is also a contradiction between the function of communication and the achievement of organizational goals. According to Himelstein A.(2015), the growing understanding of the significance of communication has sparked a lot of study in corporate communication, which has revealed that efficient communication among employees improves a lot of what is deemed vital in businesses. The reality is that in organizations, good communication is not allowed to flow freely. The attitude of management and workers has a negative impact on labor productivity. Finally, numerous communication systems have been deployed in workplaces that have nothing to do with productivity since the appropriate system is not utilized at the appropriate moment to the appropriate individual. As a result, the purpose of this study is to determine the influence of organizational communication strategies on staff efficiency in Delta State.
