The contributions of the construction industry in Nigeria towards National development cannot be over emphasized.
The level of infrastructure available in a country is a direct production of the construction industry.
Having looked at the positive impacts brought by the industries on the economy.
Its influence on the economic life of our people and consequent problems preventing these objectives, it is therefore worthy to state that a stable construction industry is very essential to the future advancement of the country.
The output of this industry cuts across every other sector of the economy; the product produced by the industry are used for various purposes and very vital to the functioning of a modern economy. This is evident by the increased in demand of construction activities in this country both the Federal, state and local governments as well as private individuals. The launching of the development plans was stressed on the need to make Nigerian a strong, united and self reliant nation.
In view of the construction need by the government, private and individuals, the industry was also engaged in the training of labour force and professionals to ensure high quality output. This comes in form of seminar, workshops, One of the noticeable improvements or contributions made by these industries is the utilization of our local materials in construction.
The proper utilization of this material aids to our national development, it is worth noting to state that for a country as ours to develop and progress, the construction must rely on our own resources.
The construction industry has contributed substantially in generating of employment to the country’s labour force and this is because the industry is more on labour intensive than other manufacturing industries.
The industry has also contributed in the maintenance of existing infrastructures to acceptable standards so as to ensure their continuous use.

- The presence of the indigenous construction industry and contractors should be protected from being extinct.
- Government should within the overall frame work of National economy avoid policies which may further increase the cost of construction work.
- There should be proper management of the various sectors of the National economy so that they can generate work/activities for the construction industry.
- Existing machine tools companies should be adequately funded and expanded for more manufacturing of spare parts for construction plants.
