Introduction

1.1 Background Of The Study

There is innumerable graduation of opinion on an issue as there is no one public opinion because there are many different publics. Theonly thing required to do is to describe the distribution of opinion amongst the public about a particular question/issues

According to Alfred A. Knopf public opinion is the aggregate of individual attitudes or beliefs shared by some portion of adults, in actual fact, public opinion always favours passage of the Equal Right Amendment (ERA). A more accurate description of public opinion on this issue would be 60 percent of the particular population that supports the amendment, whereas 40 percent oppose it has no option.

1.2 Statement of the problem

Traditionally, opinion emerges at controversial point when accepted patterns breakdown, when doubts have a risen or when the tenets of any groups are questioned on rational grounds so, opinions must be expressed or are capable of being expressed generally in words of gesture or any types of behaviour, which communicate one attitudes on a question that may indicate opinion.

Therefore in Akwa Ibom State, its almost as if kidnapping overtaken the general facet of the society wrecking havocs on the citizenry the debilitating effects ranges from tears, sorrows, insecurity to hardship and successive threats to life.

It is therefore uncertain whether the public are glad with the trends of development security wise in Akwa Ibom State. If they are not, what could possibly be their sentiment and opinion regarding kidnapping and its effect in the state.

1.3 Objective of the study

This study seek to

know the opinion of the people regarding kidnapping in Akwa Ibom State, in Uyo metropolis
Know the cause of kidnapping in the state
Know the consequences of constant kidnaps in Akwa Ibom State
know the usual victims of excessive kidnapping in uyo
know government action against the menace

1.4 Research Question

These study the following questions:

What is the opinion of the people regarding kidnapping in Akwa Ibom State
What are the know cause of kidnapping in uyo metropolis
What are the consequences of excessive kidnapping in uyo metropolis
Who are the usual victim of excessive kidnapping in uyo metropolis
What are the government action against the menace in the uyo metropolis

1.5 Research Hypothesis

This study seeks it test the following hypothesis

Ho: There is no significant relationship between kidnapping and hardship in uyo metropolis
Hi: There is significant relationship between kidnapping and hardship in uyo metropolis

1.6 Justification of the study

Knowing the opinion of the people regarding in uyo metropolis has the potential of shaping the action of the government. It has the ability of either making or marrying all the activities of the government, the people thus contributed a greater percentage of the action, policies and programmed of the government.

Therefore, this study will be of immense usefulness to the government especially to knowing then reaction perception and opinion of the people pertaining kidnapping in the state. At Least, this will enable the government to weight and assess the extent of his rulership and effect on the citizenship.

1.7 Delimitation of the study

This study is on the effect of kidnapping in uyo metropolis. Among all the know hazard of the 21stcentury, this study focuses on the trends. Causes and effects of kidnapping in the state. More over, this study is also on the resident of the uyo metropolis. It is not necessarily all the resident of Akwa Ibom state. But on the two local government areas.

1.8 Definition of terms

The following terms are define in the research as they are used:

Public Opinion:

This is the sum total of people feeling and opinion regarding issues of controversy.

Kidnapping:

This is the act of taking some body hostage for financial demands

Opinion:

It is the consequences of the among two or more insistent views which are capable of being accepted by a rational mind as true.

5.1 Introduction

This study was on public opinion in respect of kidnapping in Akwa Ibom State. This chapter therefore present the summary of major finding conclusions and recommendation.

5.2 Summary of major findings

The research study find out that public opinion includes the sentiments an any given subjects which are entertained by the best informed. Most intelligent and most moral person in the community which gradually spread and are adopted by all persons of any education of profer feelings in a civilized state.

Moreover, the people are of a very negative opinion about kidnapping in Akwa Ibom State. This is probably because government actions are viewed as being not enough especially as the government is the chief security officer of the state. Also, the people are wallowing in constant few and penury being faced with this menace.

Furthermore, findings of the study also revealed that the causes of kidnapping in uyo metropolis on Akwa Ibom also misused political instability, political, revenge unemployment, social and moral decadences and other related problem these are probably because of the availability of these elements in the society.

In another development. This study also found out that the existence of kidnapping in Akwa Ibom State they also makes evident such negative consequences like control hardship and mishop, excrement in the rate of poverty excessive unemployment as well as excessive increased in social and moral decadences.

Another revelation of this study is that the government employees the mercenaries of law and legislations of curl the menace. This is evident in the passage of law forbidding kidnapping by the Akwa Ibom State house of assembly, while violation attract a dealt penalty.

In uyo metropolis the government are also employs sensitization and awareness campaigns of the danger of kidnapping. Its consequences as the socio-economic growth and the entire development of the state above all, the current detention and trial of culprits by the police and other security agencies are measures of curbing the menace by the government.

5.3 Conclusion

Therefore public opinion an excessive kidnapping in Akwa Ibom State grows in earnest. Considering the diverse problems associated, with the menace.It has wrecked have, bring untold hardship, and inflict pains an the citizenry.

In as much as the security of like and property in Akwa Ibom State are not paramount and so confident of the chances of investment are at stake.This alone weakens the socio-economic growth of the state and even use for development. The people will not live in conscious fear of being kidnapped. killed or named.

To crown a it all kidnapped, brings no good to any society a s such all hands must be on desk reduce the trend.

5.4 Recommendation

In view of the findings of this study the following recommendation.

The government should be conscious of the security of live and properties of Akwa Ibom State.
The fight against kidnapping should be a collective effort by the government, non-government organization and private individuals.
The government should discourage. kidnapping by youth empowerment and employment creation.
Politician should not look politic as do or die affairs to discourage political victimization and revenge.
Politicians should endeavour to settle their allies an being elected in order not to create rooms for political rancor and malice.
