General Introduction

1.0 Introduction

Teacher rating is one of the topics which require pertinent attention by our education regulatory system. As teachers are only being rated and promoter base on their education qualification and time put into the service. Students also have a clear pictures of these teachers as they have the first hand interaction with teachers.

1.1.0 Statement Of Problem

Prior to this period, Teacher has only being assessed by the Education regulatory body and never have they considered the student assessment of the teachers. Most of these teachers put up a perfect front with good qualification but are most times unable to motivate or impact knowledge to this student. But this research work provides a basic student rating system capable of allowing various class students to rate his or her teacher and these rating are then compile and analyze by various regulatory body. It also aids proper storage and maintenance of Student documentation. Furthermore, it aids structured document representation and eliminates the tedium of performing monotonous rating system.

1.2.0 Objectives Of Study

This web based application provides the following benefits:

Fully automated student and teacher database system.
Online assessment form /window for rating different teachers.
Decreased processing time and form errors.
Display teachers records only to the student registered in The teachers class
Provides authentic, qualitative and comprehensive data on the teachers rating gotten form his / her assessments from student.

1.3.0 Research Methodology

During the course of this research, interviews were conducted with various teachers of different disposition and staff of the ministry of Education as regards to the assessment scheme in place. Interview was also conducted with an ICT practitioner (programmer). Information was also gotten online and from major educational directory online.

1.4.0 Scope And Limitation Of Study

The project is to create a web based application for student rating of teacher effectiveness systemin order to bring teachers online and eliminate the tedium of performing monotonous transactions. The scope covers the activities involved in the assessment scheme which will involce student ability to only rate his class teacher or subject teacher Limitation of this research work is that the system will online be available online and as such are inaccessible by student who don’t have access online.

1.5.0 Definition Of Terms

Teacher:

A person who helps others to acquire knowledge, competences or values.

Rating:

This refers to the evaluation or assessment of something, in terms of quality (as with a critic rating a novel), quantity (as with an athlete being rated by his or her statistics), or some combination of both.

System:

A set of things working together as parts of a mechanism or an interconnecting network; a complex whole.

Effectiveness:

The degree to which something is successful in producing a desired result; success.

Summary, Recommendations And Conclusion

5.1 Summary

This project has simply been about designing an online student rating of teachers effectiveness in the school using the University of Nigeria, Nsukka as a case study. The advantages of have been clearly stated which support the need for student rating of teachers effectiveness web-based application.

In summary, the objective of the study was to demonstrate the viability of leveraging the strengths of online applications, such as portability, availability, affordability and mobility in the provision of real-time information, in this case students’ rating are automated once the student rate his /her teacher using this system, the teachers have access to view these rating through his/her login window but can only see the sum total of his/her rate with the student details excluded. The admin has the sole prerogative over the system control and as thus provide administrative support to the system.

5.2 Application Of The Software To The Problem Domain

The utilization of the student rating of teachers effectiveness application can be shown in its usage and deployment.

Usage:

The system has three users; the student, teachers and the admin user. The students register for their courses for a particular session downloads materials and also rates teachers, teachers have access to upload course material, view ratings to improves performance and the admin administrate the system like adding student, class, subject and teachers to the system. The admin also has the ability to edit, delete any user.

Deployment:

This can be in terms of hosting and how a user can have access to the application.
Hosting it requires registration of domain name and uploading of the application to the web server.
For the user to gain access to the system either with a computer system, an HTML-compliance browser is required.

5.3 Recommendations

A number of possibilities exist for the future exploration and development of the results portal system. These include:

Development of a Web Service API (application programming interface) for the portal: This would provide ubiquity via the conversion of system data into formats such as JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) and XML (Extensible Markup Language), which are easily adapted by third-party client interfaces (such as SMS-driven interfaces, widgets, as well as mobile and desktop applications) without affecting the security of the main application.
Hosting the system on a virtual private network: The inherent advantage here is that the University can now isolate the system on a dedicated server which handles requests to the system separately from those going to the normal University website, optimizing its overall performance. In addition, the VPN ensures that the system is secure and accessible for its users on a 24-hour basis.
Integration of SMS- and/or email-driven notification capability into the system, to enhance its overall interactivity with its user demographic.

5.4 Conclusion

As a result of this study, students and lecturers are presented with a system which would, if implemented, grant them ease in communications concerning to the school administration by rating their teacher performance, with adequate capability for handling student complaints. Students can also take advantage of sitting in front of a desktop computer or laptop to access information related to their school and class as well as rating performances of their teachers discretely.
