Design And Implementation Of An Online Shopping Cart System For An Online Store

Computer Science Project Material with Source Code Included
Abstract
The project design and implementation of online shopping system (eCommerce) is an attempt towards computerizing the operations (transactions) taking place in the store. The rapid pace of technological changes in business and high demand for goods motivated the researcher to develop an application that improves manual operations of the transactions which are naturally prone to errors and time wastage. The on-line shopping system will enable customers to request, pay and get products through the internet. The researcher conducted the research and captured the data through primary and secondary sources. The data obtained were then used for the analysis of the previous method of operation and transaction on one hand and then for designing an online method of purchase on the other hand. Recommendations are provided as it affects the work done and also areas of possible future research. The new system was designed using PHP programming language and MySQL database. This language was chosen because of its wealth of class libraries and features for developing online-based applications.
Chapter One
General Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
An E-commerce is the trading in products or services using computer networks, such as the Internet(Wikipedia, 2015). - Store product detail using a secure database.
1.5 Scope and Limitation of Study
This research work is to develop a system capable of handling sales by automating in it self a cart system that stores all sales details prior to when the user request close the sales service.
- The system will also incorporate in its design a billing system that will display the total sales and product at the close of each transaction.
- The system will not incorporate in its development all the functions of a functional business activities system but will focus only on the aforementioned functionalities. The system will not be responsible for any loss of data if its environment (network/system installed on) is corrupt.
1.6 Significance of the Study
This research work “Design and implementation of computerised shopping cart system for a GSM/Mobile shop”. The system will be a web-based application and will be implemented on a relational database system (MySQL). Html (hypertext markup language), CSS (cascading style sheet) and Java Script will be used to design the web-user interface, php (hypertext pre-processor) will be used as the serve- side script language to link the interface and the database and Ajax technology for automation of the cart system.

Summary and Conclusion
5.0 Summary
The aim and objective of this research which was to provide an online shopping cart system has been achieved. The research begins with a general introduction to the area of study, historical background of the study, and a clear statement of the aim, objectives, scope and Limitations of the study. The next chapter focused on the review of relevant literature and the contribution of authors in the field of E-commerce, shopping cart. The third chapter provided the full detail of the systems analysis and design by highlighting the system requirement specification, use case diagram, activity diagram, and the various interfaces. Next, the system implementation was carried out specifying the testing strategies used. Also outlined in this chapter were the implementation tools and methodology. Finally, in chapter 5, the summary and conclusion of this research are discussed and recommendations made.
5.1 Conclusion
Based on the findings of this research, the following conclusions have been drawn;
An e-commerce cart system for every SMES is necessary to fully automate sales with users at different metropolis .However it does not replace the traditional process of transacting goods and service physically, but rather seeks to eliminate the tedium of having to be present to purchase good or choose desire product of interest.
5.2 Recommendations
The following recommendations have been made based on the findings of this research;
- E-commerce cart system should be used by all commercial outlet that deals with goods and services.
- The system require an administrator to fully monitor the system, update product and attend to request made by its users..
- To anyone who intends to carry out further research on this topic or a similar to this should endeavor to provide aa basis where user can converse with the system admin using a short massaging platform and through social media.
