Design And Implementation Of Car Rental And Tracking System
The aim of this research work is to design and implement a car rental and tracking system for Abiolian Solution Limited. The system will be designed using MYSQL and PHP programming languages. The design consists of various user interfaces and the chapter also explains the system design using unified modeling language (UML) diagrams and method of data collection. The application has been tested and is compatible with all web browsers e.g. Opera, Internet explorer, MozilaFirefox etc. In the integration testing of the software, satisfactory results were obtained from the test using the bottom-up approach.
1.1 Background of the Study
A car rental or car hire agency is a company that rents automobiles for short period for a fee whether for few hours, days or week. It is an elaborate form of a rental shop, often organized with numerous local branches (which allow a user to return a vehicle at different location). A car rental services are primarily located near airports or busy city
Car rental agencies primarily serve people who have a car that is temporarily out of reach or out of service, for example travellers who are out of town or owners of damaged or destroyed vehicles who awaiting repair or insurance compensation.
Because of variety of sizes of vehicles, car rental agencies may also serve the self-moving industry needs by renting vans or trucks, and in certain markets other types of vehicles such as motorcycles or scooters may also be offered (Mohd, 2012).
Car rental companies operate by purchasing or leasing number of fleet vehicles and renting them to their customers for a fee. Rental of fleets of vehicles can be structured in several ways – they can be owned out rightly ( ‘risk vehicles’ because the car rental operator is taking a risk on how much the vehicle will be sold for when it is removed from service), they can be leased, or they can be owned under a guaranteed buy-back program arranged directly through manufacturer financial arm (Walter, 2012).
The Management Information System (MIS) as a computer-based system makes information available to users with similar needs, managers used the output information. Studies shown that MIS canbe used to manage car rental services, it is expected to accelerate sales, security as well as archiving customers information for better and safer services to make it easier when required at any time.
The web application of management information system provide and support customers reservations, assist management in knowing rental car inventory at a specified time, assist in processing transactions between branches of car rental services, transportation transaction processing, which should support satisfactory service to customers and support the company’s operational processes. Web-based car rental information systems will increases company customers’ base, and help promoting company services (Bayu, 2011).

1.3 Statement of the Problem
In an organization running a car rental service, the process for searching client details is slow if the company is using manual system where there are thousands of clients. Besides this, staffs will have to record the booking manually and it will be difficult to produce a monthly report or an annual report. Manual system does not allow client to booking online and hard to keep track on the record of rental cars. Consequently, difficulty in manual process makes the need for computerized web based application to be developed to solve manual problems in the area of car rental services.
1.4 Aim of the Study
The aim of this study is to design and implement a car rental and tracking system.
1.5 Objectives of the Study
The objective of this project is to:
- Develop a simple and secure system that protects client’s information and confidential information of the organization.
- Develop a user-friendly system that enables client check for availability of vehicle, book or reserve a vehicle online.
- Develop a system that enables clients pay their car rent online.
- Develop a system that stores bookings, reservation and payment information to keep track of transactions.
1.6 Significance of the Study
The project is significant in the area of car rental and tracking system to allow for easier access to customer information and car location to avoid stealing or abscond of customers with car. The project also can be adopted in any area of rental services that involve customer taking such a product away from the location.

The research will center on the design and implementation of a car rental and tracking system for Abiolian Solution Limited. The system will be designed using MYSQL and PHP programming languages.

Summary, Recommendation and Conclusion
The aim and objective of this research which was to provide a car rental services for Abiolian Solution System has been achieved. The research begins with a general introduction to the area of study, historical background of the study, and a clear statement of the aim, objectives, scope and Limitations of the study. The next chapter focused on the review of relevant literature and the contribution of authors in the field of car rental services in Nigeria. The third chapter provided the full detail of the systems analysis and design by highlighting the system requirement specification, system flowchart and the various interfaces. Next, the system implementation was carried out specifying the testing strategies used. Also outlined in this chapter were the implementation tools and methodology. Finally, in chapter 5, the summary and conclusion of this research are discussed and recommendations made.
Based on the findings of this research, the following conclusions have been drawn;
A Car Rental and tracking systems is of utmost importance to all company in this business. However it does not replace the traditional process of gathering user information and process it using user Driving license, but rather seeks to eliminate the stress encounter by the user and the admin as well. This will also go a long way in optimizing the correctness and transparency in every car rental station.
The following recommendations have been made based on the findings of this research;
- The Car Rental and tracking systems develop in the course of this research work should be adopted by our Abiolian Solution Limited and other car rental organization in monitoring their online booking and tracking client that hire their car.
- To anyone who intends to carry out further research on this topic or one similar to this should endeavor to provide for both android and windows app.
