The Curative Efficiency Of Drugs And Herbs Against Malaria (A Case Study Of Aba – North L.G.A)

Project and Seminar Material for Mathematics and Statistics
Abstract
This research work is about the curative efficiency of drugs and herbs against malaria. For centuries ago, people have been suffering malaria till date, due to parasite transmitted by female mosquitoes of genus anopheles which have resistant to some anti-malaria medicines and insecticides. However, the anti-malaria medicines, drugs and herbs had been researched for the remedy of the affects of the parasite.
The challenges that led the researcher into this research topic was the individual efficiency of drugs and herbs, the effects, how it is diagnosed, prevention and control and its characteristics at large. These are objectives measures under consideration this research work. The research were conducted in Aba North L.G.A, through sampling of the population under study with drafted questionnaire, interview and observation methods to gather data for the analysis Chi-square tests were the test statistics used to test the independence of the medicines regards to their efficiency and patients’ day of recovery.
On the synopsis of findings, conclusions and recommendations, drugs and herbs are independent of the curative efficiency and dependent of days of recovery with respect to medicine used and recommendation were drawn for the improvement of human health.

Chapter One
1.1 Introduction
This research is about the curative efficiency of drugs and herbs against malaria. This parasite; malaria is a very common disease in tropical and sub-tropical regions. It has killed millions of people and still on the realm of the livings causing abnormality in human health. However, this research has about five chapters and each chapter revolves on the subject matter. The subsequent chapter is the review of literature about malaria.
Moreover, the procedure with which the research were carried out successfully were therein for the readers, followed by the presentation and analysis of the research. In the last chapter, it’s about the summary, conclusions, findings and recommendations as regards to the whole work.
1.2 Background Of The Study
With the number of trials and tribulations in the life, it is often difficult to remember that people living in this nation are suffering from misfortune as well. Amidst the concern is the incessant flu there is much larger crisis at large in this country Nigeria; Malaria.
Malaria is defined in African Encyclopedia as “an infectious disease that is caused by parasite that live in the liver and red blood cells of human being. The disease is very common in tropic and sub-tropic countries and is spread by female mosquitoes of the genus anopheles. The effects of this disease ruins human life and put many to early death. The disease results to dangerous complications, such as cerebral malaria (which affects the brain and makes the patient unconscious), black water fever (which damages the kidney and makes the urine dark in colour) and also reduce the functions of the immune system and many more. To effect of this disease, researchers were motivated and went proclaimed to be effective to fight malaria disease. Regards to the two anti-malaria medicines discovered, individuals that suffer the disease were in dilemma.
The medicine doctor will lay hold on drugs and herbalist will also depend on herbs for treating malaria. Both professioners regard their individual medicine superior to their opponent. The primarily circumstance circumferenced this issue becomes that, the patients do not have reliable facts as to the individual efficiency of drugs and herbs for treating malaria. They only rely on what their mindset or consultants tells them as best medicine for malaria, unknowing if there would be after effect which may crop up should the particular medicine were used for the treatment.
1.3 Statement Of The Problem
Today, we have drugs and herbs for the treatment of malaria. But in a critical appraised to this work, problems necessitated follows the way people diagnose malaria prior treatment, the side effects associated to both medicines (drugs) and herbs), the particular medicine patients rely mostly to treat malaria, the curative efficiency of drugs and herbs and how do people resist to malaria infections.
1.4 Research Questions
In view of the above problems, the following research questions were considered necessary
- How do people diagnose malaria prior treatment?
- How do they treat malaria?
- How efficiency is the medicines used in the treatment of malaria?
- What are the side effects associated to those medicines?
- How do people prevent themselves from mosquito bite?
- How many days do patients take to recover.
1.5 Justification Of The Study
- This research is important to the readers and patients infected by malaria, as it reaches forth compendium on result of the research work carried on the curative efficiency of drugs and herbs against malaria.
- To the readers who are opportune to read this research work, it will acquaint him/her on the malaria and drugs and herbs effects.
- To the governments, it will provide them the basic step to policy or decision regards to malaria cases and its anti-malaria medicines.
- To patients, the findings and recommendations will be a focus point each time they have the symptom or diagnosed of malaria. Hence, the study will inculcate them on the circumstances circumferenced the medicines (drugs and herbs)
1.6 Scope Of The Study
The bounding mapped out for this study was Aba North Local Government Area, Abia State. From this geographical area understudy, a large sample size (n>30) were randomly drawn and surveyed.
The study involves primary data collection with questionnaires, interview and observation method of data collection to obtain data for the analysis. A fragment of the population were studied instead of the entire population at large in order to reduce constraint that may limit the research work. With the sample drawn we can make generalization about the entire population.
1.7 Objective Of The Study
Consequently upon the identified problems of this study, the research had the basic objective measures of;
- To ascertain the independent efficacy of drugs and herbs against malaria.
- To identify the major side effects of drugs and herbs.
- To ascertain the number of days a particular medicine cures malaria.
Chapter Five
5.0 Summary, Findings, Conclusions And Recommendations
5.1 Introduction
This chapter focuses on the summary of findings, conclusions and recommendations resulting from the field study conducted in the questions selected from the researcher work.
5.2. Summary
However, in the curse of this study; the curative efficiency of drugs and herbs against malaria; the researcher was subjected to the efficiency of drugs and herbs for malaria treatment. On the review, according to W. H. O., each year more than 300 million cases of malaria are diagnosed and more than 1.5 million die of the disease. Theses because more difficulty to control and treat because of the parasite which have become resistant to antimalaria medicines.
Scientists received that malaria is caused by female mosquitoes of the genus anopheles and affects human health due to the parasite causing the disease and its completion of life cycle in the human red blood cells. The effects brings about change in colour of human urine, palm, eyes, skin and others, which can be detected by the patient. On the conduct of this work, samples were draw from the entire population under study and questionnaire, interview and observation method were used to collect date for the analysis.
5.3. Findings
- From the researcher conducted, it was observed that 100% of the population had suffered malaria.
- 2. Out of 100% who suffered malaria, 44% used drugs, 33% used herbs and 32% used both for malaria treatment.
- 81% of the population do not go for medical diagnosis prior treatment of malaria.
- The test carried out should that the curative efficiency of drugs and herbs are independent.
- About 1870 of insecticides were used for prevention and control of malaria, untreated mosquito net 130.90, treated mosquito net 38.60, where 3.50 were the sector of none.
- About 1.5% of the population do not use any techniques for the prevention and control of mosquitoes.
- There much side effects associated to antimalaria drugs than herbs.
- Days of recovery are dependent on the types of antimalaria medicine used.
- Drugs cure malaria mostly on the interval of 3-6 day with many side effects, while herbs cure malaria on the interval of 5-8 days with less or no side effects.
- Herbs do not have itching effects.
5.4. Conclusion
From the researcher analysis and findings, individuals mostly diagnose themselves. There are high frequency of antimalaria drugs used than herbs meanwhile both efficiencies were independent. However, side effects are associated to antimalaria drugs than herbs.
Again, people prefer insecticides to mosquito nets (treated and untreated). The curative efficiency is independent of the type of medicine used while the days of recovery are dependent of the type of medicine used.
5.5 Recommendations
However, after through recapping of the result of this study, it should be noted that the curative efficiency of drugs and herbs are independent of the types of medicine used. In the light of the above the following recommendations were made:
- People should seek for medicine diagnosis (by medicine doctor or herbalist) before treatment.
- Since the respective medicines are effective, any one that affective medicines you, take the alternatives for the safety of life and health.
- I also recommending that stangnant H2OS within our environment should be waste and the use of the techniques (treatment bed net, untreated window net and insecticides) should be used for the control of mosquitoes.
- Moreover, I recommend for further research on “the effects of insecticides to human health”.
