The Awareness, Accessibility And Usability Of Internet Technology In Promoting Effective Teaching And Learning Of Basic Science
Chapter One
Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
In recent times computers play significant role in the development and application of scientific knowledge, and facilitate the learning of science. Consequently the National Science Teachers Association advocates that computers should be applied and made functional in the teaching and learning of science. Computers have made students concentrate actively in research and learning and therefore become an essential classroom instrument for the acquisition, analysis, presentation, and communication of data. The use of computers also enables the teacher to be flexible in the presentation and management of instructional techniques, and easier record keeping. It provides the students the fundamental resource for learning the concepts and processes of science through simulations, graphics, sound, data manipulation, and model building. The use of portable laptop computer allows students to carefully gather and analyze for classroom in-depth study and the dissemination of information. These computer capabilities facilitate the effective learning of science and facilitate the communication of ideas and concepts. Computers also enhance laboratory activities. The study seeks to appraise the awareness, accessibility and usability of internet technology in promoting effective teaching and learning of basic science.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
The use of Internet is faced with some basic challenges which include lack of basic infrastructural requirements such a steady supply of electricity, unavailability of Internet facility for use by the people, inadequate access points, connectivity problems as well as high cost of computer (Lishan, 2004). These challenges militate against the use Internet and bring extra costs to end-users. The problem confronting the study is to appraise the awareness, accessibility and usability of internet technology in promoting effective teaching and learning of basic science.
1.3 Objective Of The Study
The Main Objective of the study is to appraise the awareness, accessibility and usability of internet technology in promoting effective teaching and learning of basic science; The specific objectives include
- To determine the awareness, accessibility and usability of internet technology.
- To determine the level of the effective teaching and learning of basic science.
- To determine the awareness, accessibility and usability of internet technology in promoting effective teaching and learning of basic science.
1.4 Research Questions
- What is the awareness, accessibility and usability of internet technology?
- What is the level of the effective teaching and learning of basic science?
- What is the awareness, accessibility and usability of internet technology in promoting effective teaching and learning of basic science?
1.5 Statement of the Hypothesis
The statement of the hypothesis for the study is stated in Null as follows
- HO The level of the effective teaching and learning of basic science is low.
- Ho The effect of the awareness, accessibility and usability of internet technology in promoting effective teaching and learning of basic science is negative.
1.6 Significance of the Study
The study investigates the awareness, accessibility and usability of internet technology in promoting effective teaching and learning of basic science. It provides relevant data for the effective formulation and implementation of policies to enhance the realization of envisaged objective.
1.8 Limitation of the Study
The study was confronted with logistics and geographical factors.
1.9 Definition of Terms

1. Prepare For Questions:
If you are preparing for questions that may be asked during your defense, then your answers will flow smoothly and effectively. This will prove your knowledge on the subject e.g “The Awareness, Accessibility And Usability Of Internet Technology In Promoting Effective Teaching And Learning Of Basic Science“, and strengthening your argument. Ask friends and family, read your work for them to listen to your presentation, and write down questions. You may be lucky the panel will ask you those you have already prepared on.
2. Strong Summary:
Summarizing your chapters will help keep your audience focused because it is easy for a mind to drift, so providing summaries will ensure your panel will follow along, even if they lose focus for a brief moment. Visual aides, such as graphs and power-point presentations can be very helpful. If you are going to use these, make sure you will practice your presentation with them.
3. Be Confident in Your Research Work:
Not knowing your topic “The Awareness, Accessibility And Usability Of Internet Technology In Promoting Effective Teaching And Learning Of Basic Science” inside out will cause you to struggle and ultimately fail with your defense. You need to know the subject from every angle to ensure you are fully prepared for any question that may come your way.
4. Conclusion:
Reinforce your findings to conclude your defense. The finale of your presentation should focus on proving the work that has been done. You may need to recap on what has changed and remained unchanged, if is necessary.
