Awareness And Attitude Of Awka Residents Towards Media Campaigns Against Insecurity In Nigeria

Abstract
This study was carried out to examine the awareness and attitude of Awka residents towards media campaigns against insecurity in Nigeria. The study specifically was aimed to determine the extent the media are involved in insecurity awareness campaign in Awka, Anambra state; identify the media channels involved in promoting insecurity awareness campaigns in Awka, Anambra state; determine the extent media has improved the insecurity awareness of Awka, Anambra state; determine the attitude of Awka residents towards insecurity awareness campaigns in the area; and ascertain the factors which influences the attitude towards insecurity awareness campaigns among Awka residents. The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprised of Awka residents. In determining the sample size, the researcher conveniently selected 147 respondents and 141 were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables. While the hypotheses was tested Chi-square statistical tool, SPSS v23. The result of the findings reveals that the media has to high extent improved the insecurity awareness of Awka, Anambra state. Furthermore, the study revealed that the attitude of Awka residents is positive towards insecurity awareness campaigns in the area. Therefore, it is recommended that media campaign content should be regularly updated and tailored to address the specific concerns and experiences of Awka residents to maintain relevance and engagement. Additionally, media campaigns should incorporate feedback mechanisms to gauge public perception and effectiveness, allowing for continuous improvement.
