The term sex goes beyond the realm of sex organs, instructions and act of sex organs as individuals are made to believe to make a breakthrough in the life of human relation among and between sex partners.
Sex education is the instruction about sex and human sexuality. Sex is an important effect on the human life of an individual and almost everyone in the society including children wants to know about it. Traditionally, children are not supposed to receive information about sex at all. They many a time, learn about sex through their friends, books, television, pornographic films either from the magazines or internets and sex movies.
Correct and factual information should be given to teenagers about the anatomic development in their bodies. Many frustrations may occur during this stage such as school dropout, sexual immorality juvenile delinquency to mention but a few are all problems evolving from physical, social, cognitive and mental development. However, sex education has generally being masked in giggles and hush-hush silent matters.
Children should be given adequate information’s about sex. Gone are the days when sexual matters were hidden from children. Questions posed by the teenagers should be answered by teachers to open a wide range of the communication because silence or lie telling may cause injury as they assume that the answers should be contrary to those books and peers.
Sex desire can lead to sexual immorality which can result to pregnancy i.e. the process of procreation or reproduction most teenagers are physically able to have children but few are ready and responsibilities of marriage or parenthood most unmarried teenagers who do not have babies can be carried away by their sexual feelings and emotional desires. This can cause a serious sexual malady and the psychological problems for them. It can cause an abortion, sexual transmitted disease and so on. Sexual intercourse between two persons who are not married to each other is considered as a taboo to be generality of the society and morally wrong among religious groups.
Sex relationship outside marriage can result in quilts feelings and other psychological problems for persons involved. It can also cause birth of unwanted children.
Therefore sex education should be given at early development stage of the child because the foundation laid in the early life of the teenagers determines the stability and propensity of marriage life of an individual in the society.
The provision of sex education is important because the norms guiding sexual act has been broken down by the increasing urbanization and the modernization of social norms. Imparting sex education to children is the need of the hour considering high percentage of AIDS case, sexual harassment, sexual abuse cases, and suicide cases in India. The Teachers have to teach them how to understand their sexuality and learn to curb their desires. Sex Education should be formally included in the course curriculum to spread awareness of various sex related problems and teach ways to prevent them. Social workers have to work effectively to change the perception of the society about sex. It is essential to make sure that all the children are educated about sex at the right age. The parents have to realize that they have to come out of their inhibitions and make an initiative to teach their kids about various sex related problems. Educating them right from the beginning is essential in order to enable a better understanding among children about human sexuality.
Through the findings of this studies and other relevant studies, it is found that sex education is very necessary in the cyber age because inadequate and misinformation can be a life threatening. However, no explicit study was conducted on sex education in Bhutan. Therefore, more research is necessary in this area. While this study has created a platform for dialogue and interest towards attitudes held by students and teachers regarding sexuality education, a larger scale research would have a much better impact in effecting change. Future researchers could emphasize on measuring the attitude towards sex education in relation to economic status, educational qualification and residency (rural/urban). Another aspect where the future researcher could focus is on the relevant courses and lessons to be taught in sex education class. Based on the findings of this study, it is found that sex education is an important tool to fight against social issues such as teenage pregnancy and STDs. Hence, the teaching of sex education in secondary school should be made compulsory and effective without further delay.
Efforts should also be made to enrich the training program of teachers with sufficient contents in sex education. More community involvement and the creation of dialogue around sex education should be encouraged. It is also found necessary to change the mindset of the people. Everyone should be open to discussion about sex and help the younger people to understand what sex education is. So, for that more education on sexuality has to be taught to everyone. It is also important to form a policy on sex education in Bhutan. Passage of this act would help increase awareness of the potential risks of engaging in unprotected sex and reduce the frequency of STIs for all sexually active youth. All youth would be better equipped to make informed decisions about relationships and sexual health. Schools should be a supportive and safe environment for the development of all of their students, and comprehensive policies are needed to respond to their needs.
