Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

There is no shortage of literature written about leadership and its role in the life of any one desiring to make an impact in this world. When attempt-ing to narrow the literature to clarify a single area that is responsible for success in leadership, the quantity of information can be overwhelming. Because of the surplus of information, defining success in leadership can be difficult to narrow to a singular definition or theme. Further, how can one identify the indispensable mark in successful leadership when so many models exist? The answer is to search for a model of leadership that has endured time, overcome criticism, affected multiple generations, transcended culture, and is still relevant in today’s changing world. As difficult as this may appear, this article argues that there is a leadership model that exceeds the aforementioned criteria. In less than four years, Jesus’ leader-ship and message immediately impacted thousands, within five generations the impact reached into the millions. And today, Jesus has impacted more than one billion people (Briner 2008: 21).

Leadership is defined in a variety of ways in contemporary literature and studies. “Leadership is not mobilizing people to solve the problem because they know how to do it, but it is aiding people in dealing with the issue that is not requirements set” (Fuller, Young, Barnett, Hirsch, & Byrd, 2017). Leadership is a relationship between leaders and followers that is influential in terms of genuine changes and outcomes that reflect their joint aim. Itreferred to as “leadership as one of the most studied phenomena and less accessible to the planet” (Graen & Cashman, 2015). Leadership is frequently seen as a significant factor in an organization’s success or failure (Hallinger, 2013). According to Fiedler (2017), leadership is defined as vision, transformation, influence, insight, and persuasive skills. Presentative provide opportunities to gain new skills and reward people for accomplishing the task. According to Martin (2015), leadership is the skill of transforming people and organizations in order to better the organization. In this regard, it establishes the task manager, explains, and supervises activities instructors construct relationships with themselves, other teachers, and students, so they encourage, inspire, and increase productivity among teachers, resulting in good performance of both teachers and students. Yulk defines leadership as a process that elevates one individual or group above others in order to facilitate structured activities and connections inside the group or organization (Nsubuga, 2018).

Leadership style has the capacity to motivate teachers to make a commitment to change and improve their learning in the school setting (Oyetunyi, 2016). Reeves (2018) provides a basic definition of leadership by referring to it as leadership and influence.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

The impact of leadership styles in the Christendom, particularly high-quality instructors, is quite complex. This leadership style affects educators’ commitment, care, and dedication, which in turn affects the quality of congregation and followership. According to York-Barr and Duker (2014), the capacities and skills of tutors continue to be the most important now if leadership wishes to develop and preserve an organizational culture that focuses on the continuous perfection of teachers and students. Many scholars have debated the relationship between leadership styles and instructors’ and the growth of the church. Less attention has been paid to the relationship between administrators’ leadership behavior and members’ performance. Furthermore, there is a need to investigate new ways to Christian leadership development.

5.4 Recommendation

Based on the responses obtained, the researcher proffers the following recommendations:

  1. Church leadership crises can be overcome if members and clergy perceive leadership as a way of serving God and mankind rather than themselves. Members and clergy alike should strive to embody Christ’s humility.
  2. The Christian leaders should aim at reproducing themselves in the lives of the younger potential leaders. This was the method that made Moses and Paul the apostle successful leaders. They produced Joshua and Timothy respectively. Elijah produced Elisha. Note Jesus appointed the twelve apostles to continue after him. A good leader should learn to rejoice over the achievements and development of the young ones they nurture to grow as their own achievement not as a threat to their positions. This will bring continuity in good leadership.
